What is Autism?

Autism, or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a lifelong developmental disability which affects how people communicate and interact with the world. It refers to a broad range of conditions characterized by challenges such as:

  • Social skills
  • Learning disability
  • Severe Anxiety
  • Meltdowns and Shutdowns
  • Repetitive behaviours
  • Sensory processing disorder
  • Speech delays

While Autistic people share some similar characteristics, they are also all very different from each other. Some people with ASD may require significant support in their daily lives, while others with high functioning may need less support and, in some cases, live entirely independently.
